'No Kings' Protest Rally Planned For Saturday In Westport

Dozens of protests are planned throughout Connecticut and across the country. A traffic advisory has been issued for the Westport event.

WESTPORT, CT — A "No Kings" protest rally is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday in Westport on the Ruth Steinkraus Cohen Bridge (Route 1), according to organizers, and Westport police have issued a traffic advisory for that period.

The Westport rally is one of more than two-dozen planned throughout Connecticut on Saturday, which will be replicated by hundreds of similar protests around the country.

"They’ve defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights, and slashed our services," the No Kings website reads. "The corruption has gone too. far. No thrones. No crowns. No kings."

Westport police said several hundred people, or more than 1,000, could attend Saturday's rally, which cause traffic delays in the area.

Additionally, starting at 1 p.m. nearby, the Westport Woman's Club Yankee Doodle Fair will kick off its third day.

"Westport Police are advising the public that there will be heavy traffic congestion with possible road closures in the downtown corridor," authorities said in a statement. "We encourage motorists to find alternate routes. Westport Police will have a significant presence in the area to assist with both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. If you choose to drive through downtown Westport, please be patient and alert to the increased pedestrian traffic."
