NYC Police Question Harvey Weinstein of Westport After Groping Report

No charges have been filed; the New York Times, citing unnamed police officials, reported the investigation Monday.

After a woman told New York City police that Harvey Weinstein, the famous film producer who has a home in Westport, had groped her, detectives interviewed him at a police station, the New York Times reported on Monday.

Weinstein has not been charged with any crime. According to the Times, representatives of Weinstein did not return messages seeking comment.

The 22-year-old woman told police that Weinstein groped her during a meeting in Manhattan, according to the newspaper. Anonymous police sources cited by the newspaper said the woman told police Weinstein asked her if her breasts were real and then groped her. The two initially met Thursday at a social function in Radio City Music Hall, then exchanged emails and on Friday she went to see him in his offices in Tribeca, according to the report.

Weinstein voluntarily went to the station Saturday and was interviewed for a time, then stopped discussing the matter and said he wanted to speak to a lawyer. That ended the interview and he left, according to the report.

The producer and chairman of the Weinstein Co. and co-founder of Miramax hosted President Barack Obama for a fundraiser at Weinstein’s Beachside Avenue home on Aug. 6, 2012. Later Weinstein was the target of an extortion attempt by a man who targeted several rich people, threatening their relatives or family members unless money was paid. The extortioner was later sentenced to seven years in jail.
