Obituary: Edmund Thomas Duffy, Jr., Retired Westport Firefighter

Edmund Thomas Duffy, Jr., affectionately known as T.C., Sonny, passed away on April 25, 2024, at 82, in Minneapolis, MN. He was born on July 7, 1941, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport, CT.

A man of great character and dedication, Edmund was a civil servant his entire life, including a
remarkable career as a firefighter on the Westport Fire Department. He began his service as a volunteer firefighter in 1959, at 18 years of age, and, in 1964, transitioned to a full-time firefighter, dedicating another 32 years to the profession. Even after retirement, he remained committed to helping others. Ed valued the simple joys in life, cherished his blue-collar origins, and treated everyone with respect and kindness, regardless of their background.

In addition to his career, Ed proudly served in the Army Reserve from 1964 to 1969. His military service exemplified his unwavering dedication and commitment to duty.

When Ed was not working at the firehouse, he was a landscaper. In his free time, he enjoyed hobbies such as baseball, softball, bowling, fishing, watching and reading about football, basketball, and baseball games, and collecting model trains.

Edmund will be deeply missed by his surviving family members, including his daughter Elizabeth Mullen, son-in-law Matthew Mullen, brother Charlie Duffy and his wife Rose Beauvais Duffy, brother Denis Duffy and his wife Mary Duffy, sisters Anne-Carol Duffy and Donna Duffy, as well as numerous beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife, Susan Fancher Duffy, daughter Deborah Duffy, and his parents, Edmund T. Duffy Sr. and Helene Duffy.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9th, from 4-7 p.m. at Harding Funeral Home in Westport, CT. A burial ceremony will follow on Friday, May 10th, at 11 a.m. at Assumption Cemetery in Westport, CT.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Westport Animal Shelter Advocates in honor of Edmund and his wife Susan's love for dogs. Donations can be made at https://www.westportwasa.org/.

Edmund Thomas Duffy, Jr. will be remembered as a dedicated firefighter, a loving family man, and a true friend to all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, courage, and service will continue to inspire all those whose lives he touched.
