Petition Launched Against Waterfront Development In Westport; Counter Effort Also Launched

The Hamlet is a planned development of nearly a dozen mixed-use, multi-story structures along and close to the Saugatuck River in Westport.

WESTPORT, CT — An online petition has been launched in opposition of The Hamlet, a massive waterfront development in Westport's Saugatuck section.

Westport Alliance for Saugatuck recently launched the petition to call on the Planning and Zoning Commission to deny the current application for The Hamlet, and seek a 40 percent reduction in size for any future applications for the project.

"Saugatuck is long overdue for thoughtful, forward-thinking development," the alliance wrote. "Development that enhances quality of life while addressing critical concerns like traffic congestion and public safety; development that balances infrastructure improvements with the town’s character. The increased scope and scale of ROAN's updated Hamlet plan fails on all of these goals."

ROAN Development Ventures is proposing the development, which calls for nearly a dozen mixed-use, multi-story structures along and close to the Saugatuck River. Apartments, hotels and retail are the main components of the project.

To counter the alliance's efforts, the developers also launched a petition in support of The Hamlet, CT Insider reported.
