Popular Indian Restaurant Closes After 26 Years In Westport

Mumbai Times recently announced the decision to close its popular Westport restaurant and expressed gratitude to its loyal customers.

WESTPORT, CT — A popular Indian cuisine restaurant in Westport recently closed its doors after 26 years in business.

Mumbai Times, located at 616 Post Rd E, closed Dec. 31, according to the restaurant's website. In a message to customers, owner Tarun Narula attributed the difficult decision to the restaurant losing its lease.

"We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to you all for your love and support over the years," the message reads. "It's been a pleasure to serve you."

Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce president Matthew Mandell noted he was sad to see the restaurant close, as it had been a staple in Westport for over two decades.

"It's a shame this occurred," Mandell said in an email to Patch. "They were a fixture of our community. Hopefully they can find a new location in town. I believe that is their intention."

Narula's message encouraged those in town seeking "the same great food and service" as the Westport restaurant to visit Mumbai Times' Greenwich location and Dhabewala Indian Shack in Stamford.

According to the Greenwich location's website, Mumbai Times features "a traditional culinary extravaganza of Indian cooking," offering "authentic Indian food featuring both Southern and Northern specialties."
