Proposed Massive Westport Development Denied By P&Z: Report
The controversial development would be built in the heart of Saugatuck.
WESTPORT, CT — The Hamlet, the massive, mixed-use development project proposed for Saugatuck, was denied by the Westport Planning and Zoning Commission this week, dealing a setback for the developers, ROAN Development Ventures, CT Insider reported.
The commission voted unanimously to turn down the proposal, with three commissioners abstaining. In recent months, opposition to the proposal had grown among some residents, primarily due to its size.
Commissioners argued the project did not comply with the new zoning regulations that they had previously approved for the waterfront area where it would rest.

If or when the developers will appeal the decision, or resubmit a proposal, is not known. Eric Bernheim, an attorney representing ROAN, said his clients believe the proposal met the criteria for the zone.
