Investigators determined "human error" to be the cause of the March 18 mortar mishap that killed Westport native Roger Muchnick and six other Marines in Nevada, The Hour reports.
The United States Marine Corps released a statement that human error when the Marines did not follow correct procedures with a mortar resulted in the detonation of a high explosive round, according to The Hour.
Muchnick, 23, a 2008 Staples High School graduate, played football and lacrosse at Staples before attending Eastern Connecticut State University, where he had briefly studied business and continued to play lacrosse.
