Road Paving In Westport To Extend Into Weekends, Holiday: DPW
The town's Fall Milling and Paving Project is underway.
WESTPORT, CT — The Westport Public Works Department will extend its current Fall Milling and Paving Project into the weekend and Columbus Day, in an effort to help speed up the initiative, Public Works Director Pete Ratkiewich announced.
Milling and paving work began Monday, and the department has received permission from Police Chief Foti Koskinas to allow construction work outside regularly established days and hours.
Some of the work area includes the heavily trafficked Long Lots Road corridor, therefore, Ratkiewich said "it is in the best interest for safety and efficiency to perform the work at a time when peak travel times can be avoided." This will help to accommodate commuters and school traffic that utilize that corridor during the week.

"The proposed dates are October 12, 14, and 19, starting at 7:00 AM and ending at 3:00 PM," Ratkiewich said in a statement. "Working in collaboration with our Police Department partners, we will reduce the impact of heavy trucks and milling/paving equipment on the heavily traveled Long Lots Road and intersecting streets, including the Post Road, as well as the impact to School Bus traffic, by working two Saturdays and the October 14 Holiday. In addition to Long Lots Road, Fresenius Road, and Burr Farms Road will be impacted."
Motorists are reminded to exercise caution in all construction zones.
