Westport's Slice Of Saugatuck Festival Rescheduled: UPDATE

The popular annual event showcases food and stores in the area, but a forecast of inclement weather has dampened the festivities. Update.

WESTPORT, CT — The annual Slice of Saugatuck Festival has been rescheduled to 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, as inclement weather is forecast for this weekend. The popular festival is marking its 13th edition, which showcases the Saugatuck area's food and shopping destinations.

More than "four dozen of Saugatuck's finest restaurants, shops and galleries [are] opening their doors and inviting the community to come and sample their offerings."

Seven bands are scheduled to perform, and there will be dance demonstrations and four bouncy houses for kids' enjoyment. Additionally, there will be a Balloon Bender; and face painting; and other roving performances.

As a result of the event, a traffic advisory has been issued, according to Westport Police Lt. Sereniti Dobson.

"Railroad Place will be closed to vehicular traffic from Riverside Avenue to Franklin Street during the hours of 12:00pm to 6:00pm to allow for set up and break down of vendors’ booths and exhibitions," Dobson wrote in a statement. "The east side of Riverside Avenue from Charles Street to Bridge Street will be a temporary No Parking zone during the event."

All other roads will remain open to vehicles during the event, Dobson said, but "motorists should expect heavy pedestrian traffic in the areas surrounding the Saugatuck Railroad Station including lower Riverside Avenue and Saugatuck Avenue."

In addition, attendees "are reminded to utilize the marked crosswalks when crossing these roadways. Officers will be assigned to these locations to assist with traffic control."

The Saugatuck Railroad station lots, except for Lot #2, will also be used to provide parking for the festival.

"If traveling to the railroad station or destinations in the immediate vicinity, please drive carefully and be sure to allow extra time since associated traffic delays are anticipated," Dobson said.
