Staples Girls’ Golf Qualifies for Post-Season Playoffs
The winning tradition continues for post -season action that starts June 1.
Quietly and methodically the Staples Girls‘ Golf Team has again qualified for the FCIAC and State Championship Tournaments on June 1 and June 7, respectively.
The Wreckers had to earn a place in the FCIAC playoffs, which whittles down the 11-team conference to only five teams playing an 18 hole tournament at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course on June 1.
The Wreckers are 9-4, but have not turned the page yet to June.

“We still have three regular season matches through May 30, while all other sports are in post-season action,” said Head Coach Patty Kondub of the Wreckers, currently ranked 8th of 55 teams in the State.
The JV Wreckers are still hitting the links, too, as both squads host Ludlowe May 23, Greenwich May 24, and travel to Trumbull May 30.

Due to golf course availability, the JV Championships were held May 22, and the Wreckers finished in 4th place in the FCIAC. Playing for Staples in the best-ball format were JV Captains Eliza Edwards and Cammie Rubino.
“ It’s been a fun JV season, and I’m proud of Eliza and Cammie’s strong showing yesterday. The future looks bright for next year!”commented Staples Coach Maureen Fontana.
Varsity Captain Keeva Boyle shared a similar sentiment: “It’s been a great season so far, and we’re striving to keep it going as we head into the FCIAC and State Championships!”
The State Division I Golf Championship is an 8:30AM shotgun at Timberlin Golf Course in Berlin, CT on Wednesday, June 7.
