Staples High School Student Creates Online Job Board For Teens
CampusFlyer.com was created by Staples junior Kevin Cano.

WESTPORT, CT — Staples High School junior Kevin Cano has created an online job board for teens "to help connect students with local jobs and other opportunities."
Cano, who has an interest in computer science and coding, recently launched CampusFlyer.com after finding it difficult to find a job suitable for a Fairfield County teenager on other employment sites.
"During sophomore year, I looked into getting a summer job," Cano wrote in an email to Patch. "My online search did not yield any results, and I soon realized that websites like Linkedin and Indeed are geared primarily towards professionals. My classmates were running into the same problem, and it became evident to me that there was a major market need to connect eager and responsible high school students with local businesses and individual employers."

The free website allows students to create an account and easily search for jobs in Fairfield County; employers in the area can post jobs that would be appropriate for teenagers.
CampusFlyer.com works like this, once a teen has created an account, they have access to the opportunity lookup page.

"On this page, there is a search box with filters, a map, and a list of opportunities," Cano said. "They can click on each opportunity and look at relevant information, like a description, pay, and contact information for the opportunity."
Employers can sign up as individuals or as businesses, with "individuals" being regular people who post more personal jobs like babysitting or tutoring.
"Regardless of the user type, both make an account and profile," Cano said. "They then have the ability to post a variety of opportunities: jobs, internships, volunteering, research, and personal."
Employers can post relevant information, such as "pay, age requirements, a description, address, contact information, etc. They can also take down opportunities they have posted if they wish to do so, or if the position has been filled," Cano said.
Several Staples students and area employers have signed up, according to Cano, and he hopes to see more students and employers sign up from throughout Fairfield County.
"Employment for high schoolers can be very beneficial for their education, personal growth, and resume," Cano said. "At the same time, filling jobs with local applicants is great for businesses and builds stronger connections with the community."
