Suspect Accused Of Painting Antisemitic Vandalism In Westport: Police

The suspect, a Bridgeport man, is facing similar charges from other communities, according to authorities.

WESTPORT, CT — A 69-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested on a charge of third-degree intimidation based on bigotry/bias in connection with antisemitic vandalism in Westport, according to police.

John Kuhn, who is facing similar charges in Fairfield, is also facing a third-degree criminal mischief charge in the Westport case.

According to Westport police, in August, the department received a complaint of vandalism at a former Westport National Bank building at 1495 Post Road East.

"A large symbol had been drawn on an outward facing wall of the building in blue paint that was described as a Star of David combined with swastika symbols," wrote Lt. Anthony Prezioso in a statement.

During the investigation, Westport police learned "that multiple other Connecticut police departments had investigated complaints of almost identical symbols being painted on various structures."

At that point, Kuhn was discovered to be the suspect, and Westport police obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Kuhn surrendered to Westport police on Monday, and was initially held on bail of $75,000. He was released by Stamford Superior Court later that day on a promise to appear back in court on Jan. 28.
