Police Investigate Check Stealing Case In Westport; Arrest Made
The checks were stolen out of the mail, according to authorities.
WESTPORT, CT — A 38-year-old Shelton man has been charged in connection with a mail theft and check fraud investigation that began late last year, Westport police said.
On December 24, 2024, Westport police launched an investigation following a complaint about stolen mail containing personal checks made out to various recipients. Authorities said the checks were allegedly altered and attempts were made to cash them using the name "Vincenzo Minutolo."
Using surveillance footage, search warrants, and information shared among law enforcement agencies, investigators identified Minutolo as the suspect, police said.

An arrest warrant was issued, and on April 3, Minutolo was taken into custody at Derby Superior Court. He was transported to the Westport Police Department, where he was charged with the following:
- Second-degree identity theft
- Second-degree forgery
- Criminal attempt to commit second-degree larceny
Minutolo was released after posting bond on bail of $10,000, and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on April 30.
