"The check was payable to 'Ronnie Barnett,' whom the complainant did not know, and the check number was out of sequence," wrote Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods in a statement. "Through the use of search warrants and ATM surveillance video, Ronnie Barnett was identified as the suspect who allegedly negotiated and deposited the fraudulent check."

Barnett remains in custody in lieu of bail $20,000, and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Feb. 25, 2025.
