Westport 2024 Election Results: Maher, Steinberg & Johnson Re-Elected

WESTPORT, CT — Shortly after the polls closed Tuesday night, vice President Kamala Harris was announced as the winner of Connecticut's seven electoral college votes, defeating former President Donald J. Trump and three other candidates, according to the Associated Press.

Also, U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-CT, won re-election and a third term in Congress, according to projections. He defeated GOP challenger Matthew M. Corey and two other candidates.

In the 4th District, the Associated Press reported that incumbent Democratic Congressman Jim Himes won re-election Tuesday, defeating challengers Dr. Michael Goldstein, Republican, and Benjamin Wesley, Independent.

Democratic state Sen. Ceci Maher held onto her post in the 26th District by defeating Republican challenger Kami Evans, the Connecticut Post reported.

In the 136th District, incumbent Democratic Rep. Jonathan Steinberg handily defeated Republican challenger John Bolton by a better than 2-to-1 margin, Westport Journal reported.

Additionally, incumbent Democratic Rep. Dominique Johnson was also re-elected in the 143rd District, defeating Republican challenger Peter Bang, according to Westport Journal.

Connecticut voters also approved the ballot question that will allow no-excuse absentee voting, according to unofficial results from the Secretary of State’s office.

The unofficial tally on the ballot question was 614,396 in favor to 488,312 against, as of 3:45 a.m.

Votes are still being counted in other key races, including the U.S. House of Representatives, and the state General Assembly races.

Original story: WESTPORT, CT — The polls have closed, and now we wait for the results to come in through the night and likely into Wednesday morning for several key races.

All eyes, of course, are on the presidential race between main party candidates vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald J. Trump Beyond the presidential race, U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-CT, is seeking reelection to a new six-year term and is being challenged by Matthew M. Corey, Justin C. Paglino, and Robert Finley Hyde.

Residents also voted for their local representative in the U.S. Congress, and their local state representative and senators in the General Assembly in Hartford.

Tuesday night's vote totals will also determine whether Connecticut will allow each person to vote by absentee ballot in future elections.

For President, the candidates are: Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, Democrat; Donald J. Trump and J.D. Vance, Republican; Jill Stein and Butch Ware, Green Party; Chase Oliver and Mike ter Maat, Libertarian; and Robert Kennedy Jr. and Nicole Shanahan, Petitioning candidate.

For United States Senate, the candidates are: Christopher S. Murphy, Democrat, and Matthew M. Corey, Republican. Murphy is also endorsed by the Working Families Party. Other candidates include: Justin C. Paglino, Green Party, and Robert Finley Hyde, Cheaper Gas Groceries Party.

For U.S. Congress in the 4th District, the candidates are: Jim Himes, Democrat; Dr. Michael Goldstein, Republican; and Benjamin Wesley, Independent.

For state senate in the 26th Senatorial District, the candidates are: Ceci Maher, Democrat, versus Kami Evans, Republican. Evans is also endorsed by the Independent Party.

For state representative in the 136th District, the candidates are: Jonathan Steinberg, Democrat, versus John Bolton, Republican.

For state representative in the 143rd District, the candidates are: Dominique Johnson, Democrat, versus Peter Bang, Republican. Johnson is also endorsed by the Working Families and Independent parties.
