Westport Coronavirus Updates: New Restrictions At Winslow Park

There are no off-leash areas at the dog park until further notice.

WESTPORT, CT — As part of its social distancing efforts during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the Westport Parks and Recreation Department is implementing new restrictions at the dog park at Winslow Park, announced Parks and Recreation Director Jennifer Fava.

Based on recommendations from the Westport Weston Health District to help limit the spread of COVID-19, the following restrictions are effective immediately at the park until further notice:

  • No off-leash areas. All dogs must be kept on leash.
  • Pets are to be kept close to the handler.
  • The 6-foot physical distancing protocol is to be followed for people and pets.

First Selectman Jim Marpe took it a step further and suggested residents consider using such protocols throughout Westport.

"Please follow these protocols everywhere in town, including the paths around our schools and Longshore Park," Marpe said. "In the name of safety, it is recommended that all dogs are leashed and distanced from people and other dogs when walking anywhere off private property. Appropriate precautions should be taken when caring for outdoor cats as well."
