Westport Garden Club Hosts Town Art Curator Discussion June 9

Thursday, June 9 at 1:00pm at St. Luke Church 49 N Turkey Hill Rd, Westport, CT.

This open meeting of the Westport Garden Club will feature a talk by Westport Town Art Curator Kathie Bennewitz who will present: "A Life in Art: The Boyer & Merrilees Families." Drawn from the book of the same title published in 2020, Bennewitz explores the work of Ralph L. Boyer (1879-1952) and his daughter Rebecca Boyer Merrilees (1922-2012)” who each captured the natural beauty of their Coleyetown Easton Road property named "Tickle Tree,” along the Aspetuck River from the 1920s to the 1960s. Becky Boyer Merrilees was best-known as a botanical illustrator and In 1960 she became the first female artist with a Reader’s Digest cover. She drew 8 more covers, all botanicals. The talk will start at approximately 1:30pm after the club's 1pm business meeting.
