Westport Library Youth Services Offers Teen Specials
Events include an author meet-and-greet and a volunteer expo.

From Westport Library:
Westport Library Youth Services Department is offering the following specials:
- Saturday, November 5, 9:30 am-noon: YA Lit Fest. Meet first-time Young Adult (YA) literature authors Carrie Firestone (The Loose Ends List), Karen Fortunati (The Weight of Zero), Shannon Parker (The Girl Who Fell) and Rebecca Podos (The Mystery of Hollow Places) in the McManus Room. They will speak about their debut novels, their writing inspiration, and about the publishing process. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Grades 6-adult. Registration is free and includes coffee. Register online.
- Thursday, November 10, 4-6 pm: Volunteer Expo. Grades 6-12 can meet representatives from organizations around town and find out how to earn volunteer hours. Whether looking to volunteer for a couple hours or on an ongoing basis, make connections and learn how you can get involved. The Great Hall. Registration encouraged.
Monday, Wednesday & Friday, November 14, 16 & 18 from 3:30-5 pm: Fanfiction Workshop. Using familiar characters, create a new world as you write a story together. We could have Dorothy and Toto pilot the Millennium Falcon, have Harry Potter go to prom with Katniss Everdeen or even have Spongebob run for president. The possibilities are endless. Bring in a favorite book with your favorite character and create something new. Focuses will cover characters, location, plot, dialogue, illustration and a final power point presentation of the story. There will be two separate workshops; one for grades 3-5 in the Higgins Room and another for grades 6-12 in the Teen area of the Great Hall. Register online for the appropriate age level.
