Westport Man Asleep At Wheel, Charged With Drunk Driving

It took officers several attempts to wake the man, according to police.

 

 responded Saturday morning to a report of a person passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle at the intersection of Riverside Avenue and Charles Street.

When officers arrived at about 4:40 a.m., the engine of the vehicle was still running and the car was in gear. After several attempts, officers were able to wake the operator and he was then told to place the vehicle in park and exit the vehicle, police said.  As he exited the vehicle, the officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol emanating from him, according to the police report.

Police charged 23-year-old Ronald Marsilio, of 10 Bluff Point, Westport, with operating under the influence. Police said his eyes were red and he was unsteady on his feet and appeared disoriented.

Marsilio failed the field sobriety test and was taken into custody. He submitted to a breath test with the following results: .130 and .125.

He was later released after posting $1,000 bond. He is due in court May 29.
