Alphonse 'Buck' Iannacone Named Grand Marshal of Westport's Memorial Day Parade
The Grand Marshall entered the army in May of 1944 and took his infantry training in Alabama.
William Vornkahl, president of Westport Veterans Council, announced that Alphonse “Buck” Iannacone has been selected as Grand Marshal for the Memorial Day Parade to be held on Monday, May 28, beginning at 9 a.m.
Buck entered the army in May of 1944 and took his infantry training in Alabama. After basic training he was sent to Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. for mortar school. He was then sent to Boston for transfer to Marseille France and the 70th division with the title Mortar Gunner 605. He was in Luxembourg when he was hit with shrapnel. He was in a hospital for eight months receiving treatment for the wounds. Buck received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Battle Star.

Buck worked at the U.S. Post Office, retiring in 1970. He served as president of the Postal Union. Buck has been a member of the Westport P.A.L. for more than 60 years, and is presently on the Board of Trustees. He is a member of the Joseph J. Clinton Post 399 VFW.
Buck has two children Robert and Susan and five grandchildren.
