Westport P&Z Department Owners Authorization to be Required for All Zoning Permits

P&Z Director Laurence Bradley announced today, that after Feb. 17, the P&Z Department will require written authorization from property owners before any zoning permit can be issued.

“Property owner’s written authorization is already required by both the Conservation Department and the Building Department thus in order to be consistent with these other departments, Planning & Zoning felt it was important that written authorization also be obtained for zoning permits,” said Bradley.

“Owners can draft a single letter and provide multiple copies for each department.  Having written authorization protects town staff, contractors and property owners to insure that the work is authorized.”

This policy applies to both residential and commercial properties.  It should be noted that in the case of commercial properties the property owner, not the tenant or lessee, must provide the written authorization.
