Information from the John Bolton campaign:
WESTPORT, CT — Local Westport Attorney and Planning and Zoning Commissioner, John Bolton, announced his candidacy for state representative for Westport's 136th District seat in the State House of Representatives. Last week, Bolton accepted his party's unanimous endorsement and pledged to be a strong voice in Hartford for all of Westport's stakeholders.
"I am eager to take the next step in giving back to Westport after its years of support for me and my family," said Bolton in his acceptance speech. "In these next 22 weeks, I will continue engaging with my Westport friends and neighbors, sharing my passion and experience in putting Westport first, and devoting myself to our diverse community that makes our town remarkable."

Bolton, who proudly co-parents his son in Westport, began his involvement in local politics during the pandemic, leveraging his 34 years of practicing law and a deep devotion to his hometown to ensure a better quality of life for all residents. In his remarks, Bolton highlighted his 3-year record on the P&Z Commission which has consistently promoted a holistic planning approach dedicated to preserving the town’s unique character and charm, contrary to his opponent's prioritization of special interests in Hartford.
"Throughout the past decade, our representation in Hartford has continually pursued an agenda of misplaced priorities by promoting special interests before the needs of Westport," said Bolton. "From Day 1 my policies will focus on rising public safety concerns, retaining local control in planning and zoning – specifically - the affordable housing debate and the accompanying unfunded mandates that ignore Westport’s long history of foresight in addressing social and economic issues, securing state funding for upgrading our local infrastructure while echoing the desires of our community. The essence of public service is built upon being responsible and responsive to our residents, not to the agenda of one political party or ideology."

Bolton added, “Westport has a great story to tell and we are consistently ahead of the curve in proactively addressing social, economic, and political issues. The generosity and dedicated approach pursued here in response to critical social and economic issues – is grounded in one indisputable fact – when the opportunity presents itself - we do the right thing. I fully intend to replicate this attitude in Hartford."
Bolton concluded, "Our community shouldn't settle for a disengaged representative, but demand a transparent, open-minded public servant who wants the best for their hometown. This was and continues to be my motto as an elected official. I look forward to proposing an effective policy that addresses local concerns on prevailing wage, 8-30g, unfunded mandates, and the non-partisan nature of the growing frustration from our residents. If you're like me and share this frustration with the state government, I invite you to join me in my quest to put the focus back on
Westport."
