Westport Planning & Zoning Director Mary Young Announces Retirement

Young became director in 2016, following the resignation of Steven Palmer.

WESTPORT, CT — Mary Young, Westport's Director of Planning and Zoning for the past eight years, announced her retirement, effective Friday.

In total, Young worked for the town for 22 years, and was promoted to P&Z director in 2016.

"We are incredibly grateful for Mary’s unwavering dedication throughout her tenure, which has greatly contributed to the growth and development of Westport," said First Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker in a statement. "Please join me in expressing our heartfelt thanks to Mary and wishing her the very best as she embarks on her next journey."

Tooker added, "I am pleased to announce at this time that Deputy Planning and Zoning Director Michelle Perillie has accepted the position of Director of Planning and Zoning, effective immediately. Michelle has served the Town of Westport as a planner for over 20 years, working with all aspects of land use planning with a special concentration in environmental issues. She became a licensed Professional Planner as qualified by the American Institute of Certified Planners in 2006. In 2020, she was qualified by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to be a Certified Floodplain Manager. Michelle has excelled in a variety of roles, and steadily advanced within the department, and in January 2021, she was appointed Deputy Director of Planning and Zoning. I am excited to see her lead the department with the same professionalism and expertise that she has always demonstrated."

Amanda Trianovich, the current Town Planner, who has been with the Town Planning & Zoning Department since 2019, has accepted the position of Deputy Director of Planning and Zoning. Amanda has been an integral part of the department team.
