Westport Police Department Receives Prestigious State Accreditation
The department received the honor from the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council.

WESTPORT, CT — The Westport Police Department has received Tier III Accreditation, the highest level of recognition, from the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council.
The state-run program evaluates law enforcement agencies on a comprehensive set of professional standards aimed at improving public confidence, service delivery and professionalism. Accreditation is awarded in three tiers and requires agencies to adopt written directives, implement consistent procedures, prepare for critical incidents and undergo review by state-appointed assessors.
Westport police officials accepted a letter of recognition during a ceremony in Hartford on Sept. 11. Accreditation Officer Staff Cpl. Michael Ruttenber and Deputy Chief David Wolf, who oversees professional standards, received the acknowledgment from POSTC Chairman Keith Mello, who is Milford's police chief.
