Westport Resident Discusses Book With Garden Club

Stacy Bass, Westport resident and photographer, will discuss and share images from her book "Gardens at First Light."

Photographer and Westport resident Stacy Bass will share images and discuss gardens featured in her book “Gardens at First Light” at the Westport Garden Club’s open meeting on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. in the Westport Library’s McManus Room.

The program, a collaboration between the Westport Garden Club and the Library, is free and open to the public.

For her second book, Bass went behind the gates of a dozen private gardens in the Northeast to capture landscapes in the light of early morning, according to a press release.

The book, filled with 200-plus color photographs, offers a rare glimpse of a range of private retreats located in some of the wealthiest enclaves in the country. Her work showcases a variety of garden types, from those taking root along serene shorelines to others blooming in rolling hills near open farmland. Some gardens are grand in scale and others are more modest, and the landscape design for each took years to come to fruition.

The photos are accompanied with text from Judy Ostrow, a journalist who talked to the owners of each garden to learn how the landscapes gradually came to life.

“Gardens at First Light” includes an illustrated resource guide with additional information on the featured gardens. Bass’ first book, “In the Garden” (2012), became a bestselling title in its category and received critical acclaim from major publications in the home design and garden industry.
