Westport’s Annual Holiday Giving Program Underway

"Our community's generosity eases that burden and brings joy to many who would otherwise go without."

News release from the Town of Westport:

WESTPORT, CT — Human Services Director Elaine Daignault reminds residents of the Town of Westport’s annual Holiday Giving Program, which supported more than 80 households and 154 children last year. This year, the need continues to grow with 167 children from approximately 93 households qualifying for support in Town. Many Westport families are quietly struggling with job loss, rising living costs, and unexpected hardships that leave little room for holiday gifts. The program relies on community donations to provide some relief to families with school-aged children.

Youth and Family Specialist Annette D’Augelli noted that many local parents work two jobs while caring for young children without reliable childcare. After paying rent, utilities, babysitting costs, and out-of-pocket medical expenses, there is often nothing left for presents. Through the Family-to-Family Holiday Giving Program, families receive modest gift cards that allow parents to choose thoughtful gifts and bring a sense of comfort and joy back into their homes.

“Every day we meet families doing everything they can to stay afloat, yet still unable to stretch their budgets any further,” said D’Augelli. “Our community’s generosity eases that burden and brings joy to many who would otherwise go without.”
