Westport Tax Relief Programs Applications Being Accepted
The Westport Assessor's Office and the Human Services Department will begin taking applications for the state and local tax relief programs on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

According to a news release from Deputy Assesor Joyce Gentilozzi, "the programs are open to homeowners who are totally disabled or who have reached the age of 65 by the date of application.
Qualified applicants for the state program are those who own their own homes or hold a life-use title to their home, have resided in Connecticut for one year prior to filing application, and whose qualifying income does not exceed $32,300 for single, or $39,500 for married couples. Qualifying income is adjusted gross income, plus tax-exempt interest and social security.
Westport’s local program provides for qualified homeowners (as specified above) either a tax credit with a maximum income level of $55,000 and/or a tax deferral with a maximum income level of $75,000. With incomes of $75,000-$100,000 residents are able to defer tax increase from previous year only.

The local veteran’s program offers $20,000 off of the assessment. This is also based on qualifying income not to exceed $57,300 for single and $64,500 for married. To be eligible for this program discharge papers must be recorded with the Town Clerk.
Persons inquiring about these programs should contact the Assessor’s Office at 341-1070 or Human Services at 341-1050. All applications will be taken by appointment only.
