Westport Teen Charged with DUI Following Car Accident

The 18-year-old driver admitted to hitting a curb when police noticed the damage on his vehicle.

 

found the driver asleep in his vehicle parked in the St. Luke’s Church parking lot on Turkey Hill Road at about 1 a.m. Thursday, police said.

According to the police report, the car was still running and had a flat right front tire and damage to the right front bumper and right side-view mirror. When awoken the driver stated he hit a curb with his car, but did not recall the location, police said. His speech was slurred and police said they could smell alcohol on his breath.

The driver failed the field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. Police charged Steven Smith, of 18 Maple South Avenue, with operating under the influence.

Smith submitted to a urine test and was later released after posting $500 bond. He is due in court June 14. The accident location could not be determined.
