Westport's Earthplace Launches Summer Fundraising Campaign
Proceeds will go to support the care of its animal ambassadors.
WESTPORT, CT — Earthplace, a nonprofit nature center and wildlife sanctuary, has launched a summer fundraising campaign to support the care of its animal ambassadors, with donations being matched through the end of July.
The campaign aims to raise $24,000 to fund food, medical care, and enrichment activities for dozens of resident animals at the Westport-based facility. A group of private donors has pledged to match contributions dollar-for-dollar up to $12,000 through July 31.
The organization says it is facing a financial shortfall following recent reductions in federal and foundation grants. Earthplace officials say the campaign is critical to maintaining animal care standards.

Among the animals supported by the campaign are bald eagles Chatty and Cerena, who have lived at Earthplace for more than two decades. Both sustained injuries that prevent them from returning to the wild. The birds, along with other wildlife at the center, are used in educational programs that promote environmental awareness.
"Our animal ambassadors inspire thousands of visitors each year, helping people understand the vital role each species plays in our shared ecosystem," said Veronica Swain, Director of Nature Programs. "They bring nature to schools, libraries, festivals, and community events, teaching lessons of survival, adaptation—and often, resilience."

Swain added, "A gift of $150, or any amount you can give, will go twice as far in ensuring these animals continue to thrive."
