5 Things to Know about Wilton, Earth Day Edition: April 22
One of these facts includes free coffee.

- Recycling every newspaper would save about 250 million trees each year. Unfortunately, only 27 percent of all American newspapers are recycled.
- Get some free coffee at by presenting the barista with a reusable mug!
- Next Sunday, May 1, Wilton will be holding a “” on the Wilton Green. One of the main attractions will be a giant, 20-foot-in-diameter balloon which may be entered. On the inside of the balloon will be a sprawling map of the world.
- Take a pledge to go green at http://act.earthday.org/. Some popular pledges include holding a pro-environment event, contacting a state representative, and installing eco-friendly light bulbs. There are, right now, over 102,000,000 pledges made worldwide. Join in!
- Earth Day was founded by Gaylord Nelson, a Wisconsin Senator, in 1970. Nelson founded the organization after witnessing a destructive oil spill off the coast of Santa Barbra, California in 1969. He and his staff hosted environmental awareness events across the country on April 22, 1970.
