Following Death, Wilton PD Stresses Winter Safety For Older Adults

WILTON, CT — Police are warning elder residents about the danger of winter after a 101-year-old woman recently died following a fall on icy pavement.

Police responded to a residence in Wilton on Feb. 17, where they found the woman deceased. Authorities determined she had slipped on ice, sustained injuries, and remained exposed to cold temperatures.

As winter conditions continue, police are emphasizing the increased risk of falls, serious injuries, and hypothermia. Officials recommend the following safety measures for older adults:

• Dress in warm layers, including a hat, scarf, and gloves to protect exposed skin.
• Stay indoors when possible.
• Wear proper footwear designed for traction on icy surfaces.
• Plan ahead by carrying a mobile phone and informing a friend, family member, or neighbor before going out.
• Regularly check in on friends and family members.
