Wilton Police Arrest Bridgeport Man on DUI and Traffic Charges After Danbury Road Stop

Wilton police arrested a Bridgeport man on DUI and traffic charges following a late-night stop on Danbury Road, officials said.

WILTON, CT — A Bridgeport man was arrested late Dec. 23 after Wilton police said he was stopped for erratic driving on Danbury Road and showed signs of intoxication.

Police said an officer initiated a traffic stop around 8:46 p.m. after observing a red 2010 Chevrolet Colorado fail to use a turn signal and nearly strike another vehicle in the area of Wilton Acres. The driver was identified as Espino Lester Benavides, 28, of Bridgeport.

According to police, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol and observed signs that Benavides had been impaired. Police said Benavides admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving and failed to complete standardized field sobriety tests.
