Under the Arch and Onward: Graduation at Apple Blossom

The following is a press release sent on behalf of Apple Blossom School.

The Apple Blossom School and Family Center held its kindergarten graduation on June 10. It was a beautiful ceremony as the future first graders, surrounded by family and friends, walked under an arch of wildflowers signifying their progression to the next stage of their education.

Supported by their teachers, parents and the school community the graduating children have reached a point in their development where they are ready to leave this early childhood community behind.

They have mastered their physical body and skills, from climbing to sewing to carrying heavy things. They have developed their play and social skills and have become “leaders” that the younger children look up to and admire. They have become “helpful humans” as all year long having had the task and privilege to be a helper in the nursery class, a tool collector, a table setter and much more.

Knowing that they have mastered their physical abilities they are now ready for a different kind of learning, full of curiosity and confidence.  With this confidence they made their way through the circle of the community. They greeted their early childhood teachers one last time as they walked under the arch. For the Apple Blossom Community the graduation ceremony is a celebration of the completion of early childhood.

The Apple Blossom School and Family Center is a developing Waldorf school based in the Cannondale section of Wilton that offers parent/toddler, nursery pre-school and mixed aged kindergarten, as well as unique summer camp offerings.  Children engage in a variety of different activities every day both inside the classroom and outside through all the seasons, including playing (with toys of wood, wool and cotton), painting, coloring, dancing, cooking, cleaning, building and tending the garden, and learn lessons through fairy tales, puppet shows, songs and verses.
