Wilton Police Arrest Log Highlights For Dec. 30 - Jan. 5

WILTON, CT — A couple of DUIs and an overdue larceny collar were at the top of the Wilton Poliec Department's arrest log last week.

Wilton police tracked down a woman they have been chasing since July 3 of last year when a local business called them to complain of a theft.

After the months-long investigation and assistance from other agencies, the Wilton PD was able to obtain probable cause and an arrest warrant for Hannah Lee Howell, 31, of Prospect Street in Old Saybrook. Officers executed the warrant on Jan. 3, while Howell was appearing at Stamford Superior Court for an unrelated case.

Howell was charged with fourth degree larceny, and fourth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny. She was scheduled to appear in court that same day, and turned over to the judicial marshals for processing.

Shortly after 2 a.m. on Dec. 31, Wilton police officers pulled over a Toyota Corolla they say was speeding northbound on Danbury Road. The driver, Jacob Schneider, 21, of Umpawaug Road in Redding, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, according to the police report.

Schneider failed to properly perform the standardized field sobriety tests, and was placed under arrest for DUI. Subsequent chemical testing indicated the motorist had blood alcohol levels of 0.1066 and 0.1029 consecutively. In Connecticut, the legal blood alcohol content limit for driving is 0.08 percent for those 21 and older.

Police charged Schneider with DUI and speeding. He paid 7 percent of his $300 bond and was scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court on Jan. 13.

At around 10 minutes before 3 a.m. on Jan. 4, police conducted a well-being check on the driver of a Subaru Outback who had pulled over on the side of the road.

The motorist, Joseph Simmons, 42, of Stone Street in Danbury, had exited his car to urinate on Route 7, and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, according to police.

Simmons told police he had been drinking alcohol before getting behind the wheel, and failed to properly perform the standardized field sobriety tests. Police arrested Simmons for DUI, but he refused to submit to chemical testing.

Police charged Simmons with DUI — his third such offense, driving with a suspended license, and failure to install a mandated ignition interlock device. Simmons paid 7 percent of his $300 bond and was scheduled to appear at the Stamford Superior Court on Jan. 15.
