Wilton Y Gymnasts Find Success at the Regionals

The following is a press release from the Wilton YMCA, sent by Diana Levander.

Seven-hundred and fifty gymnasts representing 28 YMCAs from New York to Maine travelled to Waterville Maine for The Regional Gymnastics championships on the weekend of May 13.

Thirty competitors from the Wilton Family were in attendance. The competition began on Friday evening with excellent performances from level 8 and 9 competitors.

Chelsea LeVander came in first place and took home the gold in the all-around with a 35.3 for the level 9 division- She placed first on the bars with 9.0 and vault with 9.125 and second on floor 8.95 and on beam 8.25. This was the first time the Wilton Y had a level 9 competitor at Regional’s.

In the level 8 division Payton Piedmont took home the gold medal on beam with a 8.95.

Meghan Graham took home the Bronze medal in the all-around with a 36.525 for the level 7 division. She placed first on the beam with a 9.525 a career high for Meghan, and 3rd on bars with 9.05. Jessica Singleton also took home gold on the beam in her age division with a 9.25 while Caroline Armstrong placed second on vault with a 9.25 and took home the silver medal.

In the level 6 division Grace Breen took home the second place all-around medal with a 35.5 and on vault with a 9.125. Grace found her self in first place on floor with a 9.2. Paige Gladstein took home the bronze on vault with a 9.075.  Alessandra Uriarte took home the silver on beam with a score of 9.150.

level 5’s Emily Keating placed second on the vault with a 9.0.

By the end of the weekend on Sunday, many of our level 4’s competed at the Regional Championship for the first time and found themselves on the awards stand! Rachel Esslinger took home the gold medal on bars with a 9.225, while Lydia Manuel also took home a gold medal on the floor exercise with a 9.275. Catie Jones also found herself on the podium with a bronze medal on the bars with a 9.075.

The next stop for our competitive team will be the National Championship in Toledo Ohio in June!
