Beat The Heat (Or Showers) While Out On The Town

What you should know today, Sat., July 24, 2011.

1. Showers this morning have cooled things off a bit, but that doesn't mean that the weather won't turn oppressive come noon. The easiest thing to do is excape the heat by staying indoors and enjoying the air conditioner. Doing so, however, can cause boredom; instead of sitting inside, you can beat the heat by going out on the town.

2. It's Sunday, and Northwest Park's Nature Center isn't always open. But in the event that it is, it's a great place to beat the heat. The building is kept cool using a geothermal energy system, and a good chunk of time can be spent indoors at the park learning about local wildlife.

3. You can also visit the Windsor Public Library or Wildon Branch, which act as cooling centers during the warmer months, or grab an ice cream at one of Windsor's great ice cream parlors - Union Street Ice Cream or the Dairy Bar.
