Caribbean Dance At Wilson Branch, Garden Tours Today

What you should know today, Sat., July 16, 2011.

1. You can get the family up and out of the house today to take part in the 's Caribbean Dance Performance and Workshop today from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. It's free of course, and it will be run by the Caribbean American Dance Company, which offers training for kids and adults in "Caribbean folk, modern and praise dancing."

2. As a fundraiser for the Windsor Historical Society and the Windsor Garden Club, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Tickets will cost $15 today and can be purchased at the following locations:

• Bill Selig Jewelers, 161 Broad Street, Windsor

3. When you're out and about today, don't forget to make a stop at Stop & Shop on Kennedy road where you can support the new Windsor Pet Pantry from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. The pantry officially Mon., July, 18, but will be outside Stop & Shop today, along with State Representative David Baram, Town Council members, Police Chief Kevin Searles and more will be present to support the effort.

4. On this day in history, 1935, to the dismay of all but municipalities' revenue lines, the world's first parking meter was installed. Put in place in Oklahoma City, the meter was known as Park-O-Meter No. 1.

5. Today is expected to be mostly sunny with a high of 90ºF. Temperatures should drop into the mid-60's tonight, according to National Weather Service reports.
