Floodwaters Return, Cause Road Closures

Traffic has been slowed across town due to flooding.

Just one week after flooding unseen in 50 years, the Farmington River's waters have breached its banks again.

A flood warning, followed by a flood watch was issued by the National Weather Service for Windsor around 8 a.m. Thursday morning as heavy rains caused the closure of ramps at exit 38 on Interstate 91.

Traffic on roads across town have been affected by the flooding of the Farmington and smaller streams that cross under roads.

Pleasant Street was closed Thursday morning, and flooding hampered traffic on Bloomfield Avenue, Poquonock Avenue and River Street.

Measured in Simsbury, the Farmington is expected to crest at 14.39 feet, over two feet above its flood stage of 12 feet, at 9 a.m. Friday morning.

Forecasts from the Northeast River Forecast Center predict the river levels will continue to rise throughout the day, reaching 13.1 feet by 8 p.m.
