Man Charged With Illegal Turkey Hunting On Bloomfield Game Club Property

Wednesday was the opening day of the season.

BLOOMFIELD, CT - State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection officials said Wednesday that its Environmental Conservation Police arrested a man for illegal wild turkey hunting on the Bloomfield Game Club property.

Wednesday was the opening day of turkey season, according to the DEEP.

EnCon officers took into custody Mark Zanawich, 62, into custody. He was illegally hunting from a hunting blind on Bloomfield Game Club property on Terry Plains Road, Bloomfield, according to the DEEP.

Zanawich was allegedly baiting turkeys with cracked corn, a practice which is prohibited, and did not have any permits to hunt wild turkey, DEEP officials said.

Zanawich was charged with fourth-degree negligent hunting and illegally turkey hunting with the use of artificial bait, according to a news release.

He is scheduled to appear in court May 9 in Hartford, according to a news release.
