The Beatles 45 Years On

1. On this day in history, August 29, 1966, the Beatles performed their last concert before paying fans at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. Twenty-five thousand tickets were sold at a price tag of $4.50 to $6.50 each. The Beatles took to the stage at 9:27 p.m. and performed 11 songs - Rock and Roll Music, She's a Woman, If I Needed Someone, Day Tripper, Baby's in Black, I Feel Fine, Yesterday, I Wanna Be Your Man, Nowhere Man, Paperback Writer and Long Tall Sally.

According to The Beatles: Off The Record by Keith Badman, the Beatles knew it was to be their final concert. Recognizing its significance, John Lennon and Paul McCartney took a camera onto the stage and took pictures of the crowd, the rest of the group and themselves at arm's length.

"Before one of the last numbers, we actually set up this camera, I think it had a fisheye, a wide-angle lens. We set it up on the amplifier, and Ringo came off the drums, and we stood with our backs to the audience and posed for a photograph, because we knew that was the last show," recalled George Harrison in Badman’s book.

2. If you weren't old enough, or lucky enough, to have seen the Beatles back in their heyday, Foxwoods Casino is presenting Legends In Concert tonight at 8 p.m.  Performances will also take place from Aug. 31 through Sept. 4. According to the Foxwoods site, Legends in Concert is the longest running celebrity tribute show in the world. 4. On this day in history, 2005, Hurricane Katrina made landfall at New Orleans, Louisiana as a category 4 storm, devastating the region.

5. Now that all the fuss is over with, the forecast looks beautiful. There's an expected high of 77ºF today, and temperatures will drop into the mid-50's tonight, according to National Weather Service reports.
