The Day After Sept. 11

1. Few things remind us to stop and think so profoundly as the anniversary of 9/11. Last week and through Saturday and Sunday, the news, and perhaps our own personal conversations and social media posts, were filled with images, interviews and tributes to those lost as well as our personal memories of what we were doing on that morning. It has been said that on the day after, 9/12, Americans stood together as one, like never before, putting aside their political ideas, skin colors and religious views.
In an effort to keep that feeling of togetherness alive, The 9/12 Project was formed. They are most widely recognized for their participation in the September 12, 2009 “March On DC.” This was a day when Republicans and Democrats stood united as Americans and encouraged everyone to “think.” Promoted as a volunteer-based, non-partisan movement, the group's aim is focused on building and uniting communities back to the place we were on 9/12/2001. 2. Connecticut has its own 9/12 Project chapter and Web site. Information, events and political opinions can be expressed on its Facebook page, as well. Also on their Facebook page, you'll find a more extensive overview of the organization as well as its nine principles and 12 values, to which it is committed.

3. A Windsor 9/12 Project group usually meets the last Friday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Whistle Stop Cafe, 139 Broad St., Windsor. The next meeting will take place on Sept. 30. The group invites anyone who is interested to come down, discuss, have dinner or a snack and coffee, or just sit and listen during the meeting. 4. On this day in history, 1993, the opening of a new floating bridge in Seattle made it possible to take a coast-to-coast trip from Boston to Seattle using only I-90.

5. There's a chance of showers today, but clouds will part for a partly sunny day with a high around 80ºF. Temperatures will drop into the low 60's tonight, according to National Weather Service reports.
