Windsor Lions to Host Saturday, August 17 Food Collection

Drive-Thru Community Food Drive to Benefit Windsor Food & Fuel Bank

On Saturday, August 17th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Windsor Lions Club will hold a Drive-Thru Non-Contact Food Drive to benefit the Windsor Food & Fuel Bank. The collection effort will take place rain or shine in the parking lot of L.P. Wilson Community Center at 599 Matianuck Ave. in Windsor, where the food bank is located.

The public is invited to bring a bag of non-perishable food (no glass containers please) and drive their donations to the Windsor Lions’ fifth annual collection drive for the local food bank. People can stay in their cars and Windsor Lions will unload them. Items especially needed at this time include canned chicken; baked goods, coffee/tea, canned pasta, baked beans, condiments, crackers, cereal, and canned fruits and vegetables, as well as personal hygiene items. Donations made in the form of cash, checks and credit cards also will be accepted at this collection drive. Checks can made out to: The Lions Club Charitable Foundation of Windsor (please note WFFB in the memo line) and 100 percent of all donations will be donated to the Windsor Food & Fuel Bank.

The Windsor Lions are coordinating this important service project to meet the present and future needs of the community. All donations of food, toiletries and funds will go directly to the Windsor Food & Fuel Bank.

“Windsor is extremely fortunate to have such an active Lions Club; its members consistently step forward to help the community,” explains Joanna Gould, President of the Windsor Food & Fuel Bank. “We greatly appreciate well-organized volunteer-run collection drives like this one that make it easy for people to drive up with food donations so that our Windsor Food & Fuel Bank can serve our neighbors all year round.”

The Windsor Food and Fuel Bank Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in 1967 as the Windsor Community Service Council (WCSC). The all-volunteer Board along with our partners at Windsor Social Services, works to accomplish our Mission of ensuring that no Windsor resident goes hungry, is cold, or is without basic necessities.
