Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Windsor

BREAKING: The strongest storm of the season thus far will arrive later today. Here's the latest details on what to expect.

The big storm has almost arrived in Connecticut, which means dangerous winds, some snow and ice for parts of the state, and heavy rains are expected by Monday afternoon and evening. It appears the worst of the storm is now not expected until later this evening and during the overnight hours in Connecticut.

Some light rain is possible during the afternoon hours, especially during the coast, while some light snow and sleet is expected this afternoon in northern Connecticut. The state is under a Hazardous Weather Outlook for very unsettled and unpleasant weather conditions Monday night.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan noted there is a “slower trend” for the storm and through 7 p.m. in Connecticut there is only light precipitation scheduled, either rain at the coast or snow/sleet/rain in inland areas.

“The bulk over the storm will be in the evening and at night,” Hanrahan said on his Facebook page.

Hanrahan wrote that the forecast is still tricky regarding the snow and sleet accumulation, especially in northern Connecticut.

“The snow/sleet forecast is still a tough one and uncertain. Some of our computer models continue to show several inches of snow & sleet in the hills while others show more freezing rain (ice) than sleet. Sloppy and messy either way,” Hanrahan wrote.

He also added that on the good news side, tides are very low today and even with the storm surge expected later that only minor coastal flooding is anticipated.

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons wrote Monday, “A big storm heading our way later today and tonight with a lot of wind and a lot of rain. There could be some sleet in northern Connecticut for a while this evening. Heavy rain expected overnight tonight and strong winds with some power outages and coastal flooding. Quiet weather returns for Wednesday with sunshine and temps around 50°.”
