DNA Hit Leads To Woodbury Burglary Arrest: Police

A Mercedes, tools and equipment were among the valuables taken in the 2023 burglary, according to state police.

WOODBURY, CT — A local resident is accused of breaking into a town business in 2023 and stealing tools, equipment and a Mercedes Benz, according to police.

Arcade Gelinas, 40, of Woodbury, was arrested on a warrant Friday at Superior Court in Waterbury.

State police charged him with larceny of a motor vehicle, first-degree larceny, third-degree burglary, and second-degree criminal mischief.

On Aug. 29, 2023, police received a complaint from a Woodbury business that someone had broken a window to gain entry overnight.

The business’ staff told police approximately $36,448 worth of tools and equipment had been stolen, an arrest warrant shows. A 2019 Mercedes Benz valued at about $40,000 was stolen from the business’ parking lot, and the key fob was missing from a front service desk, police said.

Police later located the vehicle and used stop sticks on it. According to police, a male operator resembling Gelinas fled on foot. Police said they found stolen items in the vehicle.

The burglar had cut himself on a broken window at the business, and police were able to positively link Gelinas’ DNA to dried blood found at the scene, police said.
