Man In Middlebury Standoff Found Dead Inside Home: Reports

Following an hours-long standoff with state police, a man was found dead inside his home early Thursday morning.

MIDDLEBURY, CT — A man involved in a standoff with police in Middlebury is dead, WFSB 3-TV reported.

State police Troop A responded to help Middlebury police with a suspicious incident at 5:27 p.m. on Porter Road, WTNH News-8 reported. Local police departments from Naugatuck and Waterbury also responded.

A man fired two rounds from a handgun in his home before barricading himself inside. An adult family member managed to escape and contact police, according to WFSB 3-TV.

Nearby residents were ordered to evacuate their homes.

Police were unable to establish contact with the man over the course of several hours. Police found him dead inside the home at 5 a.m.

Middlebury police said SWAT teams were leaving the area at 5:45 a.m. and that residents were returning to their homes.

The road was still closed Thursday morning but has since reopened. Detectives from the Western District Major Crime Squad are running the investigation, WTNH News-8 reported.
