Woodbury Man Stabbed Officer, Charged With Attempted Murder: Police

A man was held on $3 million bond on accusations that he stabbed a police officer in the neck during a traffic stop, state police said.

WOODBURY, MA — A Woodbury man stabbed a police officer in the neck during a traffic stop and will face attempted murder charges, according to state police.

Officer Tim Wright with the Woodbury Resident Trooper's Office spotted a Jeep Grand Cherokee driving on North Main Street in Woodbury at 1:24 p.m. Thursday without properly displaying a registration plate.

The driver pulled off the road and into the driveway of his apartment complex. The driver then exited the SUV and began to walk toward Wright, who left his patrol vehicle.

The driver was "verbally aggressive and refusing to comply with verbal commands," according to state police. The driver then fought with Wright and stabbed Wright in the neck with a knife, state police said.

Another officer arrived as this was occurring, and the suspect attempted to flee on foot. However, the second officer managed to use his Taser, take control of the suspect, and put him in handcuffs.

A state police sergeant then rushed Wright to Waterbury Hospital. He is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect was identified as Tyler Wilmot, 31, of Woodbury. He was taken taken to the hospital for treatment and released. He was then transported to Troop L in Litchfield for processing.

Wilmot was charged with criminal attempt to murder, first-degree assault, assault on a public safety officer, interfering with an officer/resisting, and motor vehicle violations.

He was held on $3 million bond. Wilmot was scheduled for arraignment at Waterbury Superior Court on Friday.
