Woodbury Motorist Asleep at Wheel With Infant In Back: Police

The state Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.

WOODBURY, CT – A local man faces charges after he was found slumped over the wheel of his vehicle at a stop sign with a six-month-old baby in his backseat, state police said.

On Wednesday, troopers charged Jason Perillo, 46, of Woodbury, with risk of injury to a minor, possession of drug paraphernalia, and operation of a motor vehicle with a child passenger while under the influence of alcohol/drugs.

State police received a report of a motorist slumped over the wheel at the intersection of Joshua Hill Road and Tuttle Road in Woodbury on Jan. 22 at about 3:10 p.m.

The Honda Ridgeline was stopped at a stop sign and not moving, causing a hazard to other motorists, state police said.

Police found Perillo to be unresponsive and said they had to break through a window to get access. Perillo had narcotic paraphernalia and failed a field sobriety test, according to police.

The infant was evaluated by emergency personnel and returned to its legal guardian. Police informed the state Department of Children and Families about the incident.

Perillo is due to appear in Superior Court in Waterbury on Feb. 14.
