This Is The 'Most Charming Small Town' In CT: Reader's Digest

The "quintessential New England town" earned a spot on Reader's Digest list of the most charming small towns in each state for 2024.

WOODBURY, CT — While Connecticut is known for it's large number of small, quaint New England communities, Reader's Digest has singled out Woodbury as the state's most charming place to be.

Reader's Digest recently compiled its 2024 list of the "Most Charming Small Town in Every State," offering readers a glimpse into 50 "small-town gems that seem lost in time."

In her ranking, travel writer Lyn Mettler described Woodbury as "a quintessential New England town...located at the base of the Litchfield Hills," featuring mature trees and buildings that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries along its main road.

"Right in the heart of the Connecticut Antiques Trail, it's known as the Antiques Capital of Connecticut," Mettler wrote, "and antiquers will surely find plenty of treasures, from vintage cast iron to midcentury-modern knickknacks at the more than two dozen shops."

For entertainment, Reader's Digest recommends visitors enjoy a farm-to-table meal at Good News Restaurant and Bar or take in a ride at Quassy Amusement Park in nearby Middlebury.

For lodging, the publication recommends the Heritage Hotel, Golf, Spa and Conference Center in Southbury.

Woodbury received a similar honor from Reader's Digest back in 2018, which also highlighted the town's dining options and antique stores.
