1 Dead, Several Injured In Delaware Apartment Fire: Police
More than a dozen people were displaced after the fire ravaged a downtown Dover building housing both apartments and businesses.

DOVER, DE — One person was killed and multiple others were injured when a major fire broke out at a downtown Dover apartment building early Wednesday morning, according to authorities.
The fire was reported around 2:40 a.m. at a building on the northeast corner of West Loockerman and South New streets, according to a joint news release from the Dover Police Department, the City of Dover Fire Department, and several other agencies. The building houses a mix of both apartments and businesses, officials said.
Seven fire departments fought the blaze, officials said, and the fire was deemed under control just before 8 a.m.

Once the fire was under control, first responders found a man dead inside the building. Seven others were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries and smoke inhalation, officials said.
About 17 people were displaced due to the fire, according to a report by the Delaware News Journal.

Loockerman Street from Queen Street to Governors Avenue was closed for several hours Wednesday, officials said. Several surrounding streets were also affected by closures and detours.
The cause and origin of the fire have not been determined and remain under investigation, officials said. Anyone affected by the fire should contact the American Red Cross at 800-733-2767.
