FLORIDA — In a last-minute appeal, convicted rapist and murderer 57-year-old Loran K. Cole filed a stay request Monday with the U.S. Supreme Court ahead of his scheduled execution Thursday, WFLA reported.

Cole was sentenced to death on Feb. 18, 1994. He was convicted of jumping and robbing two siblings in the Ocala National Forest with a friend - leaving the brother beaten in the forest and taking the sister to a campsite, where Cole was accused of raping her, the Associated Press previously reported, citing court records.

Gov. Ron DeSantis on July 29 signed a death warrant to execute Cole at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Florida State Prison.

However, in his appeal with the high court, Cole claimed Florida's use of a "drug cocktail" may cause him "needless pain and suffering" due to symptoms from Parkinson's disease, WFLA reported.

“Cole’s Parkinson’s symptoms will make it impossible for Florida to safely and humanely carry out his execution because his involuntary body movements will affect the placement of the intravenous lines necessary to carry out an execution by lethal injection,” read the stay request, per WFLA reported.

In addition to his murder conviction, Cole was also convicted and sentenced to life in prison on suspicion of two counts of kidnapping, two counts of robbery with a gun or deadly weapon and two counts of sexual battery with a weapon or force, according to DOC records.

A recent appeal from Cole was denied Friday, WFLA reported. The appeal was reportedly filed on the grounds of past abuse Cole allegedly endured at a state reform school, where boys were allegedly beaten, raped and killed, the news outlet reported.

If executed, Cole will reportedly be the first person to be executed in Florida since October.
